Jackson County inmate dies after medical emergency at detention center

A 42-year-old inmate from Lee's Summit, who was booked into the Jackson County Detention Center on July 14, has died following a medical emergency at the detention center. Inmates alerted corrections officers that a fellow inmate needed help around 11 p.m. on July 16. The man was found in his cell and taken to a nearby hospital, where he was placed on life support and pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m., according to the Sheriff's Office. The cause and manner of death are currently being investigated by the Medical Examiner's Office, with no official report yet issued.
