The World Health Organization (WHO) has identified an outbreak of the hantavirus, which is now being investigated by Kalshi, a prediction market platform. The market opened its market on the virus on Wednesday and indicates it will only be resolved if the WHO declares it as a public health emergency of international concern in 2026. Trading in this market was high compared to other markets opening on the same day. The WHO identified the virus as an outbreak on May 4 after several passengers on a Dutch-flagged cruise ship grew ill. The virus is transmitted through urine, feces or saliva of infected rodents and by touching contaminated surfaces.
