George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley has called for the U.S. to continue allowing birthright citizenship, stating it is "insane" for the country to be one of only 30 countries with no restrictions. The Supreme Court heard arguments on Wednesday regarding President Donald Trump's executive order ending birthright for children born to illegal aliens. Turley accused the justices of acting like originalists, meaning they interpret the Constitution based on its original meaning at its time of adoption. The citizenship clause of the 14th Amendment was ratified in 1868 to grant freed slaves and their children citizenship.
