SF Giants’ Birdsong dealing with right elbow soreness
Published on March 13, 2026.
Right-hander Hayden Birdsong is being evaluated for right elbow soreness, and will undergo further evaluation. The severity of the injury is currently unknown. Birdsong, who entered spring training as a strong candidate to make the Opening Day roster as a reliever, has allowed eight runs over two 1/3 innings this spring. Trevor McDonald is expected to be the favorite out of the group to make it out of camp, with a 1.80 ERA over 10 innings. The Giants have already had multiple relievers sustain injuries that will prevent them from being ready for the start of the season. Left-hander Erik Miller is set to appear in his first Cactus League game of the spring after dealing with lower back tightness, but believes he will be ready for Opening Night against the New York Yankees on March 25.
