Maggie Gyllenhaal has revealed that she created the looks for Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale in The Bride!, her second directorial feature. The film is set in 1930s Chicago where the Bride of Frankenstein is brought to life by Christian Bale and Annette Bening. The filmmaker wanted the Bride and Frankenstein to be visually different and visually different, breaking with the visuals from past adaptations. She also wanted Buckley's look to be iconic but also human. Bale, who previously worked with Gyllenhal on screen in The Dark Knight, praised the directorial work and credited Warner Bros. for supporting the project.
