US President Donald Trump's Board of Peace has presented Hamas with a written proposal on how it could lay down its weapons, a step the Palestinian terrorists have so far refused to take. The proposal was made during meetings in Cairo and was first reported by NPR. The talks were attended by Nickolay Marentov and Aryeh Lightstone, the board's envoy to Gaza. The plan for Gaza, which Israel and Hamas agreed to implement in October, involves Israeli troops withdrawing from Gaza and reconstruction starting as Hamas lays down weapons. However, sources close to Hamas suggest that the terror group would likely refuse to give up its rifles due to fears of attacks by rival militias in Gaza. An amnesty offer for Iran-backed Hamas is also being offered as incentives for its disarmament, but it is unclear if the Board would have funds to pay for it.
