New Mexico's Republican gubernatorial primary race is being contested by three Republicans: former Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull, Doug Turner and Duke Rodriguez, with 30% support among Republican and independent voters. However, 40% of voters surveyed said they were still undecided about who they would vote for in the June 2 primary election. None of the three GOP candidates have held statewide or congressional office before, which could contribute to their limited name recognition. The Republican gubernatorial candidates have lagged behind their Democratic counterparts in campaign fundraising, raising roughly $1.5 million compared to nearly $11 million raised by Democratic frontrunner Deb Haaland. The winner of the GOP primary will face either Democrat or independent in the November general election. This year's primary election marks New Mexico's first-ever semi-open primary, allowing independent voters to cast a ballot in the Democratic or Democratic categories without changing their party affiliation.
