Nvidia Needs to Remind Itself What PC Gamers Actually Want

Nigeria has introduced a new 6x “Dynamic Multi Frame Generation” technology, a new addition to its DLSS 4.5 (deep learning super sampling) slate, which replaces the company's previous frame generation model with multiple AI-generated frames in between two rendered frames. However, the new technology can be difficult to use on a certain screen's 240Hz or more refresh rate, particularly on a high-refresh monitor or laptop screen. The company's new frame generation features are not widely supported in any games, requiring users to change global “DLSS Override” settings to enable Dynamic Multi Frame Generations. The new model was also introduced alongside a new “Auto Shader Compilation” mode that reduces the time it takes the dreaded “Loading Shaders” bar to go from 0 to 100. Despite these improvements, frame generation still offers many drawbacks for gamers without the latest and greatest graphics card. This isn't what PC gamers truly want, as it impacts the play experience too much. The most recent Steam Hardware Survey shows more gamers rely on a GeForce RTX 3060 or RTX 4060 for gaming than any other higher-end GPUs.
