A study by the American Cancer Society has found that the increase in colorectal cancer deaths in younger adults is largely due to individuals with less education. The study used government data on over 101,000 younger adults from 1994 to 2025. Over the last 30 years, the rise in deaths was almost entirely among people without a four-year college degree. This suggests socioeconomic factors may be driving the increase. The findings have prompted the need for public awareness about colorectional cancer and for younger adults to heed screening recommendations. The American Cancer society estimates that more than 158,000 cases of coloreectal cancer will be diagnosed in the U.S. this year, and it is expected to claim over 55,000 in 2026.
