Oregon DEQ fines landfill near Corvallis over $3 million for air quality violations

Oregon Department of Environment Quality (DEQ) has fined Valley Landfills Inc. over $3 million for air quality violations at Coffin Butte Landfill near Corvallis. The order alleges that the company failed to monitor, capture, and control landfill gas emissions under federal and state law. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency referred the case to DEQ in 2025 after a multi-year compliance investigation. The civil penalty against Valley Landfalls is the largest ever issued by the department.
