Former Apple CEO, Tim Cook, plans to step down and become executive chairman, John Ternus, returning Apple's top job to its product roots. Mike Slade, a Seattle tech veteran who served as an advisor to Steve Jobs at the company, believes this is exactly what is needed for an engineer from the inside. He believes that Apple needs to pick an insider who understands the culture and knows how hardware comes together. TERNus, who joined Apple in 2001, has overseen hardware across all major product line, including iPhone, Mac, iPad, and AirPods. The transition ends one of the most successful tenures in corporate America under Cook, who grew Apple's market cap tenfold and by trillions of dollars from about $350 billion to $4 trillion. However, the biggest question facing Cook is what to do about artificial intelligence, with Alex Zenla, co-founder and CTO of Edera, suggesting a hardware-minded CEO for the position.
