The U.S. military and Israel's IDF have reportedly inflicted significant damage to Iran's navy during the war, but this has not yet been fully destroyed or decimated. The distinction between Iran's two separate naval operations has been obscured by the fog of war. The Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRGCN) uses a more conventional doctrine and uses submarines and a surface fleet of older warships, while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy uses smaller boats and drones. Despite these losses, the Strait of Hormuz remains closed as of April 3, showing the effectiveness of this asymmetric strategy.
