Netflix, Prime Video, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery Bet on Local Content and Fandom to Drive APAC Growth

Executives from Netflix, Prime Video, Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery have expressed their belief that Asian IP and local storytelling are the most valuable global assets in the streaming industry. This sentiment was shared during a session at APOS 2026 in Bali. For example, Netflix VP of content for APAC (ex-India) Minyoung Kim highlighted successful investments in Korea, Japan, and India, while Prime Video's Gaurav Gandhi highlighted efforts to tailor its strategy to different markets. Disney's Tony Zameczkowski also highlighted the importance of strategic partnerships, citing Disney's collaboration with Hulu Japan and ESPN's distribution through Disney+ in markets such as Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong and Singapore.
