Popular sandwich shop closing in S.F.’s Mission District after three decades

Jay's Cheesesteak, a 30-year-old sandwich shop in San Francisco's Mission District, is set to close at the end of the month due to a lack of lease and rising operating costs. The restaurant has been in business since 1995 and was known for its namesake Philly cheesesteaks. Ryen Motzek, president of the Mission Merchants Association, expressed sadness about the closure, noting that it was a blow to the community. The closure follows the departure of We Be Sushi, another decades-old neighborhood spot, which closed in February after 39 years.
