Tornadoes have destroyed homes and farms in southeastern Minnesota, damaging parts of Rochester area. The National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes of varying severity, affecting Olmsted and Wabasha counties. No one was killed or injured in the incident, despite significant property damage. The first tornado formed near Stewartville with 130-mile-per-hour wind and a maximum width of approximately 175 yards. Marion Township, population 4,066, appeared to be the worst hit, with several homes severely damaged. In nearby Stewartville, eight homes were majorly damaged and 14 more reported minor damage. An emergency shelter was set up in Rochester, though displaced residents were able to stay with family or friends by the weekend. The outbreak could potentially beat the April record for the La Crosse, Wis., area office, which covers 20 counties across southeastern Minnesota.
