Louisiana early voting exceeds 2024 presidential primary early vote, data says
Published on May 10, 2026.
Early voting in Louisiana ended on May 16, with more votes cast in the May 16 election than in the presidential primaries two years ago, according to state election data. Over 206,749 votes were cast early in the closed primary election, surpassing the 170,283 total early votes cast during the March 16, 2024, presidential primary. East Baton Rouge Parish had the highest turnout with 25,059 votes and Orleans Parish recorded 18,628 votes. Dillard University political analyst Dr. Robert Collins attributed the high turnout to unusual turnout for an off-year election, particularly among Democrats and Black voters.
