The Chicago White Sox were shut out for the eighth time this season, losing 4-0 to Boston Red Sox in front of a sellout crowd of 37,517 at Fenway Park. The White Sox, who have been outscored 18-2 in the first two games of the series, were frustrated with their lack of command and feel for the pitch. Starter Sean Burke, a native of Sutton, Mass., stepped in to prevent further damage. Despite allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 4 1/3 innings, the White Sox managed to limit them to four hits, two by Miguel Vargas. The Red Sox scored their first run with two outs in the opening inning, with Wilyer Abreu scoring with two runs.
