Lee Cronin's horror film, The Mummy, opened in theaters with a strong opening at the box office, earning an estimated $13.5 million domestically and ranking third behind the likes of Super Mario Galaxy and Project Hail Mary. Overseas, it added $20.9 million for a global debut of $34 million. Despite mixed reviews from critics, the film is expected to make its investment worthwhile, particularly as it has a significant $22 million budget. The film was produced by Blumhouse, another example of trying to take an old monster IP and create something imaginative with it.
