Nevada’s HOA dispute resolution process could get makeover

The Nevada Real Estate Division is looking at the state's HOA dispute resolution process for potential improvements. Currently, homeowners must complete this process before they can file a civil suit against an HOA. However, none of the steps within the current system are binding, and critics argue it's a costly process and favors HOAs due to their deeper pockets. The current system allows for one of the highest concentrations of homeowners’ associations in the country, particularly in Las Vegas and Reno metro areas. A recent study by the National Association of Realtors found that the number of HOAs across the country is booming, but over half of people (57 percent) who live under an HRA don't like it. The change in the law regarding alternative dispute resolution was made in 2013.
