The University of Minnesota program, Mashkiki Maaginigan, aims to encourage more Native youth to pursue careers in health and science fields. The summit, which took place at the Hennepin Healthcare Clinic and Specialty Center, also included about 100 students from the White Earth Reservation. The program combines traditional Native practices with modern medicine and aims to give more exposure to the medical field. The U's Medical School recently received a $200,000 grant from the Medica Foundation for its work with youth at White Earth for the next two years.
