Doctors explore weight-loss drugs as possible relief for endometriosis symptoms

Kerri Nasta, a woman who went undiagnosed for years, was diagnosed with endometriosis last August after undergoing surgery and being started on GLP-1 medications. The drugs are currently FDA-approved for diabetes management, weight loss, and reducing cardiovascular risk, but may also reduce chronic inflammation throughout the body. Nasta's doctors believe GLP1 medications may help reverse progesterone resistance, which can contribute to treatment failure in some patients. The biggest challenge in using GLPs for such conditions is FDA approval, which is often expensive and not covered by insurance when used off-label.
