The Department of Defense's top watchdog, the inspector general, concluded that now-retired U.S. Army Major General Antonio Aguto Jr. lost classified maps on a train from Poland to Ukraine in 2024, while traveling from Germany to Kyiv for meetings. The maps were left unsecured on the train and not recovered until Aguto had returned to Germany. The report also concluded that Aguto broke military rules by drinking a Georgian brandy called chacha in excess during a six-hour dinner in May 2024. He suffered a concussion the following day after falling twice and later falling outside of a meeting with then-Secretary of State Antony Blinken and then-U.S Ambassador to Ukraine.
