Empirical Ventures, a Bristol-based deeptech fund co-founded by Dr Ben Miles and Dr Johnathan Matlock, has secured a £10M commitment from the British Business Bank (BBB) through its Regional Angels Programme, bringing total support for the firm to £15M. The new capital will allow Empirical to write larger cheques to early-stage science-led founders across the UK, particularly outside London. The fund backs PhDs in deeptec companies across energy, materials, and life sciences. The first £5 million was committed in April 2024.
