Apple's new MacBook Neo has been praised by former Microsoft Windows chief Steven Sinofsky, who believes it will replace his MacBook Air. The MacBook Neo, which costs $599 and includes an 8GB of unified memory, was controversial due to its inclusion of an iPhone chip and its performance issues. Sinofski, who was behind Microsoft's launch of a similar ARM-powered laptop, believes the MacBook Neo demonstrates Microsoft's mistakes in its transition to ARM-based chips. He also criticizes Microsoft's decision to keep x86 and ARM separate, which led to confusion among buyers and a two-tier ecosystem that still affects Windows. He argues that Microsoft erred by asking Windows users to switch to a new app model, apps that would run on ARM, and that Microsoft's move to ARM was seen as a mistake.
