The Giro d'Italia has seen Guillermo Thomas Silva become the first Uruguayan to win a Grand Tour stage, after a dramatic sprint following a crash involving nearly 20 other riders. The winner of the stage 9 of the Giro de Italie was announced by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and the Spanish government. Australian cyclist Jay Vine was among the injured during the crash.
