The March 10 tornado that hit the Kankakee Elks Country Club in Aroma Township, Michigan, destroyed or severely damaged 300 trees. The course, which was opened in 1926 and purchased by the Elks organization in 1962, has been transformed into a traditional style of golf. Five holes, including holes 1, 8, 9, 10 and 11 on the par-72, 6,596-yard course, were significantly damaged or destroyed. Despite the loss of hundreds of trees, the course will not lower its scoring to compensate for the loss. The restoration of the course's shape and appearance is expected to continue for years. The volunteers who cleaned up the debris have also returned to the course to restore playing.
