Taylor Swift has applied for new trademarks on the sound of her voice and image, a legal tactic designed to protect her from AI deepfakes. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has been notified by the singer's application, which includes two federal trademark registrations for her voice, and a third for an image of herself performing on stage. If granted, these trademarks would cover use of the trademarks on a wide range of “entertainment services”. This move is seen as a sign of the lack of true legal protections due to the growing sophistication of AI technology and its ability to mimic voices and create fake videos.
