Strong winds are affecting Southeast Alaska's higher elevations and coastal communities, with peak gusts reaching 55 mph. A wind advisory remains in effect across Southeast Alaska until Thursday at 6 p.m. The strongest impacts are expected to be from downtown Juneau, southern Douglas Island, Skagway, Sitka, and Ketchikan. The extreme winds are also triggering natural avalanches due to wind loading. Despite this, most of the state remains dry and sunny, with temperatures expected to remain below normal throughout March. The state has been largely dry for the past three weeks, with only light snow in Kodiak and a rain-snow mix near Ketchik. Despite the cold weather, relief is expected for Fairbanks by mid-November.
