Educators adopting AI in the classroom

Artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly prevalent in classrooms, with some educators suggesting that the focus should be on teaching students how to use it responsibly. This discussion was led by researchers and educators at Michigan State University's CREATE for STEM Institute, which focuses on improving science, technology, engineering and math education. Some educators believe AI is already showing up in schools regardless of whether teachers allow it. Tanya D’Water, an English teacher at Insight School of Michigan, now teaches students to use AI as an editing tool instead of allowing it to complete assignments for them. Ting Ting Li, a researcher now at Washington State University, is developing an AI system specifically designed for educators, ADAPT AI, designed to help teachers build lesson plans, classroom activities and assessments tailored to their students. Despite new tools being developed, Li said training remains one of the biggest challenges facing schools.
