U.S. soccer team’s path out of Group D is there — but it must figure it out

The United States Men’s National Soccer Team (USMNT) is set to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City. The USMNT has been drawn into Group D by being the host nation and receiving an invitation to the Round of 32. However, competence has been lacking. The team's last two losses were by a combined score of 7-2 and a 5-2 loss to Belgium. Coach Mauricio Pochettino, who will take the fall if the team fails early in the World Cup, has just over two months to prepare his team for the tournament. The best player for the USA is Christian Pulisic, who hasn't scored since 2024.
