The Arizona Diamondbacks defeated Detroit Tigers 9-6 in their home opener, spoiling Justin Verlander's return to the Tigers. Corbin Carroll homered, tripled and drove in four runs, giving the Diamondbacks a 5-0 lead off Verlander. Verlander was making his first start with the Tigers since 2017 after signing a one-year contract. Michael Soroka, who gave up four hits in five scoreless innings and tied his career high with 10 strikeouts in his debut for Arizona, secured the win for the team. Detroit had been shut out on four hits before scoring six runs in the seventh to close to 8-6.
