Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate James Fishback has highlighted the concerns of young voters about the job market. He claimed that youth underemployment for college graduates is 70% nationwide. However, these figures are found to be lower than Fishback's claim. The most reliable data shows that the rate is about 42%, with no significant swings in the last several years. Since the mid-1990s, 5.4 million people on average have been classified as underemeded, rising to over 9 million during the 2008 Great Recession and 10 million during COVID-19. A Federal Reserve of New York report found that 42.5% of recent college graduates aged 22 to 27 were underemoted as of December 2025, the rate varying from 38% to 48%.
