A powerful boom was heard and felt across Northeast Ohio early Tuesday morning, causing homes and businesses to shake and rattle. The National Weather Service has suggested that a meteor may have been the cause. The boom was felt across a wide swath of the region, from Bay Village and Lakewood on the west side to Mayfield Village, Pepper Pike and University Heights on the east side. A satellite detected what appeared to be a lightning strike around 9 a.m. However, there were no thunderstorms in the area. Many readers reported feeling the powerful blast, which shook their homes and rattled windows, and checking for damage or signs of an explosion.
