Merrimack College's men's hockey team won their first Hockey East title, a 2-1 victory over third-seeded UConn, securing an automatic bid in the NCAA Division I Tournament. The victory came after the eighth-seeding Merrimack team was criticized for not showing up to the Hockey East Championship's final two stages, with head coach Scott Borek stating the team was just "just to play" in the game. Junior goalie Max Lundgren made 49 saves in the final game, marking the most saves in regulation during a Hockey East championship game. Despite a significant deficit in shots on goal, Merrimacks managed to regain the lead in the third period.
