Randal Grichuk performed a strong performance in the Yankees' 4-0 series-opening win over the Red Sox, helping the team secure a roster spot while Anthony Volpe is nearing a return. GrichUK, a platoon outfielder who has not performed well in the first weeks of the season, came through with two hits, including an RBI double in the eighth. Despite not performing well in his first two weeks of play, he managed to score two runs and double his average of 100. Manager Aaron Boone suggested that this might be his final chance to show his team what he can do and maintain his place on the roster. The Yankees shortstop is expected to play in five rehab games this week with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and build up his workload before a potential return to the big leagues as soon as next week's series against the Rangers. Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodón are also expected to make rehab starts this week and possibly be able to play as many as three straight days this week.
