Temporarily cooler before widespread record heat returns

New Mexico experienced a record-breaking day of record high temperatures, with temperatures reaching the 70s, 80s and upper 90s in southeast New Mexico, while Carlsbad hit 100 degrees for the second consecutive day. A cold front entered New Mexico earlier this morning and brought gusty winds to Albuquerque and the eastern half of the state. Despite this, temperatures are expected to remain warm throughout the week. A high-pressure system is expected to develop in the southwest United States and potentially return to New Mexico by mid-week.
