The World Eskimo-Indian Olympics (WEIO) took place in Fairbanks, Alaska, with the finals including the Knuckle Hop, the Men's Blanket Toss and the One-Foot High Kick. The four-day event also provides a social gathering for friends and family from around the State of Alaska. The Elder's Lounge, which is reserved for attendees 60 years and older, was attended by sisters-in-law Marie Yaska and Helen Attla. Yaska moved to Fairbanks from Huslia in 1976, where she said she enjoyed events like WEIO, which she found entertaining and engaging. Attla, originally from Hughes, said the event introduced new kids growing up in Alaska to different ways of life. This year marked the 65th anniversary of the event.
