The characters in "The Devil Wears Prada," adapted from Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel of the same name, The Devil Wates Prada, were inspired by real-life figures in fashion. The film follows aspiring journalist Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway) as she navigates the industry as an assistant to Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the editor-in-chief of high-fashion magazine, Runway. Despite Streep's explanation that her character was not a direct portrayal of Wintour, she has said she drew inspiration from two male directors and that her portrayal of the sharp-tongued assistant, Emily Blunt, is believed to be based on Leslie Fremar. Despite this, many fans have continued to connect the characters to real-world figures.
