The Utah Legislature has passed a law that restricts diversity, equity, and inclusion in public schools and colleges two years ago. This comes after an incident at Weber State University, where an author rescinded a speaking commitment after receiving a list of prohibited terms and concepts for visiting speakers. The bill, sponsored by Republican Sen. John Johnson, aims to clarify that DEI restrictions established in public entities don't restrict presentations by guest lecturers or speakers. If it becomes law, public universities must designate public policy events each academic year that introduce students to diverse viewpoints and ensure that some of these events are debates.
