Iconic Newport Beach movie theater, Regal Edwards Big Newport, is set to be replaced by two 22-story residential condominium towers. This comes after years of declining attendance for the theater. The Edwards Family, who founded the theater decades ago, have decided not to extend their agreement to operate beyond June 2027. The developer, Related California, will replace the six-screen movie theater and construct two 270-foot-high buildings with 150 condominium units, for-sale home offices, on-site amenities, and retail and cafe space. The announcement of the demolition was met with mixed reactions from moviegoers.
