The New York Mets have a strong front line of young starting pitchers, with prospects such as Zach Thornton, Nolan McLean, Jonah Tong and Christian Scott. Thornton recently performed well in his second consecutive Grapefruit League start, allowing one earned run on four hits and one strikeout over three innings. Manager Carlos Mendoza praised Thornton for his ability to get the fastball in to righties. The 24-year-old lefty has pitched to a 1.35 ERA in his two Grapefruit league appearances. The Mets have assigned several players to minor league camp, including Ryan Clifford, Jackson Cluff, Grae Kessinger, Jacob Reimer, Ji Hwan Bae, A.J. Ewing and Jose Ramos.
