Naperville’s Matrix Club owner converting venue into Aura Club & Conventions

The former Matrix Club in Naperville, Illinois, is being transformed into Aura Club & Conventions, a venue that includes a ballroom, theater, restaurant, and yoga studio. Ajay Sunkara, the owner of the property, is planning to create a more stable ownership and operate the venue himself. The venue's previous tenant, The Matrix Club, had stopped paying rent in fall 2024, leading to a lawsuit and a judge's ruling in December 2025 that the club be evicted and the property returned to the owner/landlord. The opening date for the venue has not yet been set, as Sunksara is still awaiting multiple permits from the city of Naperville. He plans to upgrade some of the venue's features, particularly the restaurant, as he believes the restaurant was not fully utilised under the previous tenant.
