The closure of the historic stretch of the road, known as "Battar Road", will end more than eight decades of informal crossings between farming communities on each side of the border. The road is maintained by Alberta's Warner County, which has already set aside funds for a replacement. The closure is seen as "ridiculous" by some, with some calling it "unfortunate" for the close relationship between neighbours.
