Beloved Long Island crossing guard dies after drugged driver hit him while while high on ‘street Xanax’: DA

Nassau County crossing guard John Miro, 70, died after being hit by Joshua Alvarado, 30, who is facing upgraded charges of manslaughter for allegedly jumping a curb and mowing down Miro. AlVarado allegedly had been high on "street Xanax," an illegal synthetic drug, at the time of the crash. Miro died a week after the crash, a week later, a day after the arrest. Alvalado was driving towards a service call for an extermination business when he allegedly fell asleep at a red light and jumped the curb, causing Miro to fall down. If convicted, Alvalo could face between seven and 15 years in prison.
