The record-breaking heat is set to expand eastward this weekend, with temperatures expected to reach levels typically expected for late May and June. Despite a brief dip in intensity expected from Sunday into Monday, high pressure is expected to restrengthen towards midweek. High temperatures across much of the Plains will top out as much as 30 degrees Fahrenheit above historical averages for late March, with Denver predicted to reach 90 degrees on Saturday, breaking the daily record high of 78 degrees set in 1995. The heat, combined with gusty winds and moderate to severe drought, will raise the risk for wildfire start and spread across the Southwest into the Plains.
