The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a warning to beachgoers to avoid all water contact, particularly near discharging storm drains, creeks, and rivers due to potentially higher bacteria levels. The warning will remain in effect until 5 a.m. on April 29. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has noted that high rainfall can contaminate ocean and bay recreational waters, especially near discharges of storm drains and rivers, and it can take up to 72 hours for bacteria to return to normal levels following heavy rainfall. The advisory also highlighted the risk of illness among children and the elderly.
