Oracle Lays Off Thousands to Offset AI Spending

Oracle has laid off thousands of employees in an attempt to offset its investment in AI technology and other tech companies' need for fewer workers due to the booming AI boom. The total number of people let go is unclear, but earlier this year, TD Cowen had predicted that it could be as high as 30,000 in a global workforce of about 162,000 people. The layoffs were part of a broader organizational change and have been criticized by some investors for the company's handling of the Stargate project, which has not been met with success but has been unable to meet deadlines. The company's decision to lay off employees was informed via an anonymous email informing employees of "difficult news". The layoffs will help offset the massive debt Oracle is taking on by investing heavily in data centers.
