Super Bowl events fail to provide much of a lift to Bay Area airports

The Super Bowl did not significantly boost the fortunes of at least two major Bay Area airports in February, despite the partial government shutdown affecting TSA operations. The Bay Area was expected to attract 90,000 to over 260,000 visitors over the eight days leading up to the Super Bowl. However, the weather conditions were particularly unpredictable. San Jose International Airport handled about 673,600 passengers in February compared to approximately 9.7% from February 2025, but up 4% from January 2026.
