Surrey's Ben Foakes and Tom Lawes scored a record partnership on the opening day of the County Championship season at Edgbaston. Surrey was all out for 328 in the last over of the day, with Foakes scoring 128 and Lawes scoring 83. This was a seventh-wicket record for Surrey against Warwickshire in first-class cricket. Despite an early disarray, Surrey's top-order was dismissed by Ethan Bamber and Chris Woakes. The pair added 155 in 41 overs. Despite a strong performance from Sibley and Ollie Pope, the last three wickets fell in the final two overs.
