The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that submetering companies, which provide energy to consumers, must follow the same rules as traditional power companies. This decision expands tenant protections for tens of thousands of Ohioans who live in apartments who often pay for their utility bills. The decision overturns how regulators previously classified these companies as public utilities, but lawmakers are also considering House Bill 173, which would exclude them from public utility status. An internal investigation found that former Ohio State University President Ted Carter steered university resources towards a podcaster he had an inappropriate relationship with, potentially violating ethics law. The Youngstown State University Penguins women’s bowling team recently visited the White House, where President Trump celebrated their first-ever national championship win. Ohio lawmakers are considering creating a dedicated state energy office as energy affordability grows.
